This course has been carefully designed to offer you a solid and enriching introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, one of the most comprehensive and transformative yoga styles. No prior yoga experience is needed: this workshop will guide you step by step, helping you build a strong and safe foundation for your practice.
Course Outline:
Introduction to Yoga We will explore the fundamentals of this ancient practice and reflect on why practicing yoga can be transformative for the mind, body, and spirit. You’ll learn about the 8 limbs of yoga (Ashtanga), which provide a path to inner peace, and focus on the importance of mindful breathing.
Mantras Discover the power of mantras as tools for concentration and spiritual connection. You’ll learn how to use them to prepare your mind before starting your practice.
Dristhis (Focal Points) Learn about visual focus points that help maintain concentration and alignment, promoting a deeper and more stable practice.
Sun Salutations A and B (Vinyasa) Master the fundamental movements of the sun salutations with a step-by-step guide to the poses and breath synchronization. These sequences form the foundation of Ashtanga Vinyasa practice, building strength, flexibility, and endurance.
Bandhas (Energy Locks) We will introduce the bandhas, or energy locks, which help direct and contain energy within the body. These locks are essential in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, and you’ll learn how to activate them to enhance your practice.
Standing Sequence, Closing Poses, and Nadi Shodhana Practice the standing sequence to improve balance and stability, along with the closing poses that conclude the practice. Additionally, you’ll learn the Nadi Shodhana breathing technique, or “alternate nostril breathing,” which purifies energy channels and balances the nervous system.
Parampara (Tradition) Delve into the significance of tradition and lineage (Parampara) in Ashtanga Yoga, honoring the teachers and the transmission of knowledge across generations.
